DIRECTOR’S NOTE
When my grandfather died, the cost of his funeral hit us like a bucket of cold water, even though the deceased had paid for more than 40 years to the neighborhood insurance company that had been taken over by the funeral home. And on top of that, the coffin seemed too small for him!
Polvo Somos is a critique of the usury of the funeral business, but above all, it is a snapshot of a thawing: that of the relationship between two sisters, marked by the pain generated when we try to enter where we don’t fit, into each other’s expectations, into the disguise we are expected to portray.
For this family journey of car rides, smoke, and ashes, I have had the privilege of having a brilliant cast, led by Jone Laspiur and Goize Blanco, who maintain a pulse of overwhelming truth, supported by the talent of actresses such as Itziar Aizpuru, Klara Badiola, and Patxi Santamaría.
They all ask for a thought for their late grandfather.
For a dignified farewell.
